Look Really Good For Winter In A Knockout Winter Coat!
Time for a good womens winter coat if you don't have one because here we are right at the beginning of winter. I'm going to really enjoy it because there is tons of good looking stuff out there right now in all the winter clothing categories whether it's a skirt from Ann Taylor, a pair of Reaction 'Go Along' Boots (dressy) from Kenneth Cole (about $139) or a trudge through it pair of Juicy Couture's Igloo Logo Boots (about $195). But I suppose I would be wise to get myself a new winter coat first. Winter coats for women is a category that has such a wide range and so many smashing alternatives that I'm going to have a great time shopping.
Are you going to look out for me? I tend to get carried away if I don't have my leash on! But if you have a reasonable budget (hey, what's reasonable - right?) it should stretch to a few well chosen items that are not only going to keep you warm and toasty while you're waiting for the kids but also have you looking your best in the worst sort of weather and everything in between. (I can't believe this is me talking!) So let's start with that good quality woman's winter coat, a sporty ski jacket, a couple of pairs of boots of different styles and lengths and don't forget a cute hat or two and some really good gloves. Thermal and waterproof that will take scraping the car and hitting the shops. Before we finish let's not forget some party dresses and something sharp for the coffee claque downtown.
OK - are you headed for the store or are you going to shop online? Well maybe a bit of both - huh? Get the ideas online and check 'em out at the store when you're in town. Sound good?
We're planning to spend wisely too ( yes, it's really me!) so while you're here, let's look at the designers stuff and see if we can find some gorgeous knock-offs. Gotta be an educated consumer the man says!
Back to basics. You can add the fancy stuff a little later. Numero uno, a decent quality wool coat in a sensible color. Wait a cotton picking minute - I didn't say boring coat - we'll look at the good looking cuts and you'll dazzle as well as being wrapped right for that January Nor'easter. My pick of the litter is an Ellen Tracy Asymmetrical Ruffle Shawl Collar Topper in an ivory (beautiful!) wool angora. You can find it at Nordstrom online and you'll pay about $238. (STOP PRESS: THIS LITTLE BEAUTY IS NOW MARKED DOWN BY 35% AT $149.90)
Next scarf, gloves and hat to go with that gorgeous coat. While you're still in Nordstrom, take a look at the Trouve 'Britt' Ankle Bootie in black. Would go well with the coat at $139.95 You could get them in chocolate too if you prefer.
Sorry, scarves, gloves and hat. Don't get me started on hats. I just spotted a Helen Kaminski Charcoal Crushed Velour Cloche that would go , oh so well, with that coat but I better come back to earth with a budget conscious choice, don't you think? (Hey, if you can float it, do it and don't mention my name to your accountant whoever he is!). Down to earth - Kangol's Wool Spitfire cap. Good looking - mold it to you. It was $48 at the Village Hat Shop online but you lucky ladies it's now $32. Gloves and scarf - lots of places and variety. Frankly, I think I'd go to Eddie Bauer where you could get black fleece, gloves and scarf for a total of about $40.
OK - so I didn't talk party dresses yet. Give me a break, we're not doing badly. You'll find some totally elegant party dresses at Nordstroms and some more at Sak's Fifth Avenue. That should be enough for now. And I promised not to get ahead of myself!
