Stunning Jackets Have To Be Up To The Conditions

What you are looking for in a woman's ski jacket really depends on what you're going to be up to and where and what you're going to be doing. Now I know that sounds like a cop out but the range of conditions that will subject a jacket to and whether or not your a downhill racer or just a weekender who likes to ski best in spring in that corn snow and savor some wine in the sun just below the peak makes a huge difference as to the type of jacket you will be happy with. Let's run through what I think are some of the best in each category and you can take it from there or do some more research on your own.

Dedicated back country enthusiasts will love this jacket. The Cloudveil Women's Koven Jacket is an athletic-fit hardshell. Cloudveil is based in Jackson, Wyoming and specialize in mountain ready gear of all types. The Koven Jacket uses a waterproof fabric that is twice as breathable as competing 3-layer laminates, allowing you to lose that excess wetness before you get clammy. there's a helmet-compatible hood, the jacket has fully sealed seams, and a storm-sealing collar for powdery face shots. You have to pay for this type of construction I'm afraid but if you're serious about your skiing, its worth it. It's stock number CO V1879 and is priced at $329.95. Backcountry.com is carrying this jacket but you better go online now as they don't stock that many. Free shipping up to the holidays.

Getting a little more down to earth, LL Bean has a good selection of jackets of various types and styles. Here are three of them. The Mountain Storm Jacket is lightweight, made of Gore-Tex® PacLite® polyester shell, completely windproof and waterproof. The interior zipper can be used to zip in either a Soft Shell or a Storm Primaloft® Jacket to give a choice of outerwear systems providing complete protection from rain, wind and cold. The two give protection to -15° in the case of the Soft Shell; to -25° with the Primaloft Jacket. Its Bean's item TA52748 and the price is $199. Only three colors - Carbon, deep turquoise or Dark raspberry.

You shouldn't be without a Casco Bay Windbreaker. They take no space and are so-o-o useful. They're made of lightweight, ripstop, nylon. With a sweater you're all set for a walk on the beach. I love to take our golden for a romp. The Casco's are only $34.95 , Bean's item TA52297. 5 colors. While I'm thinking of them, why not pick out a Bean Trail Model Fleece Pullover? Take them both and your shopping is done! Item number TA55414 for $40

Last but definitely not least, the K2 Sugar Jacket, also from backcountry.com. Well stuffed with synthetic insulation in body and sleeves and with a fully taped waterproof breathable fabric. The look is distinctive and I think you'll be happy with this one. 4 front pockets with goggles, pass and media pockets. Two colors - bark herringbone or fossil herringbone.
